Lee R. Phillips was born on January 5, 1934, and passed into eternal life on July 5, 2016, after a courageous battle with cancer. He attended Central High School and proudly served in the US Marines during the Korean War. Lee loved cars, everything from drag racing, to rebuilding engines, to modifying them to reach their maximum performance. He had an extraordinary mechanical aptitude and used this ability in his job at the old Lily-Tulip Cup Corporation as the plant maintenance supervisor, responsible for designing and maintaining machinery. He worked at Lily for 40 years, until his retirement but continued to rebuild engines and cars throughout his lifetime. His other great hobby was listening to and sharing his music, particularly Elvis Presley and “old time rock and roll”. Lee was married to Patricia Martin from 1959 to 1971 and they remained friends until his death. They were blessed with two children, Martin Lee and Angela Leigh. Lee is loved and survived by his children—Martin (Sheri) Phillips, of Springfield, and Angela Phillips Larabee, of Colorado Springs, CO; five grandchildren—Alisyn (Joshua) Van Note, Michael (Katrina) Phillips, all of Springfield, and Zachary, Rachel, and Seth Larabee, all of Colorado Springs; two great-grandchildren—Madelyn and Jude Lee Van Note; and his siblings–Jack, Mary, Janie, Ruby, Linda, Ada, and Imogene. He was predeceased by his parents, David and Dolly Phillips. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 am, on Saturday, July 9, 2016, at Greenlawn South. A graveside service will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 11:00 am. –
