Leo H. Snelling, Jr. was born on December 11, 1948 on a farm in Camdenton, MO. His parents were Leo Sr. and Alberta (Stamper) Snelling. He passed away on May 24, 2018. He loved sports of all kinds, excelling in football, baseball and basketball while in high school. Leo attended college in Warrensberg, and went on to coach football and wrestling. He loved teaching upper division mathematics. After working in the Eldorado Springs, Iberia and Versailles school systems, Leo moved to Ozark to be the Junior High School Principal. His proudest moment was when he was chosen to be the Ozark School Superintendent which involved overseeing the construction of the new Ozark High School. Before his retirement, Leo was acknowledged for his accomplishments with the prestigious Robert L. Pearce Award, which honors excellence in education and community leadership among Missouri Superintendents. After retiring he became the Director of Purchasing for Christian County. This enabled him to continue using his extremely intelligent mind. He made many new friendships there and loved the challenge of helping the courthouse use taxpayer’s funds correctly.
Leo is survived by Gloria Davis and their special kitty (Puddy) of the home, two daughters: Kali Kliethermes (Terry) and Kaysi Snelling (Brad), three grandchildren: Rowen, Jack and Samuel Kliethermes. He is also survived by one brother: Donnie Snelling (Sandy) and their children: Scott and Lisa, and many dear friends.
Leo truly was the ultimate servant to the Ozark community, and as his secretary Teri LoPresti said, “He was always the best man in the room!” He so just wanted one more round of golf with his best friends: John Hail and Ken Coy at Highland Springs Country Club which he was so proud to be a member of. Leo lived a life that touched others and helped them become better people. Thanks to all who showed their love, respect and concern to a very special man!
He will be missed beyond words. Visitation will be held Friday, June 1, 2018
from 1:00-3:00 p.m. in Greenlawn Funeral Home South with services starting at 3:00 p.m.
