Leroy T. Walton was born June 20, 1948, the first born to the union of L.T. and Bessie A. Walton. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Leroy was born in Ft. Benning, GA, but grew to manhood in Springfield, MO, where he completed his high school education at Central High School and attended Missouri State University. At an early age, he gave his life to Jesus Christ, and was united and baptized at Washington Ave. Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Hardiman.
During the Vietnam War, Leroy volunteered for service in the United States Army and was accepted into Officer Candidate School. He graduated as a Second Lieutenant and advanced to the rank of First Lieutenant by the time he finished his tour of duty.
After being honorably discharged from the Army, Leroy applied for the position of Correctional Officer at the United States Hospital for Federal Prisoners in Springfield where he remained employed for 25 years. After retirement, Leroy joined American Legion Post 639 and remained an active member until his death.
Leroy was called from labor to his reward on April 12, 2013 at the age of 64.
He leaves to celebrate his home going a loving brother, Roger Walton and wife Dora of Arlington, TX; nephews, CW2 Cedric Hillard of Newport News, VA and Cedric Walton of Arlington, TX; niece, Tamnika Walton; great-nephew, Malachi Walton and great-niece, Laila Johnson, all of Arlington, TX; uncles, Cloyd Walton, Elijah Gage, both of Minden, LA, and S.J. Colter of Richmond, CA; aunts, Letha Walton, Mary Walton, Ruby Gage, all of Minden, LA and Elaine Colter of Richmond, CA; numerous other loving relatives and a host of friends.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2013 at 1:00 p.m., in Greenlawn Funeral Home North. A memorial visitation will be held Friday, April 19, 2013 from 6-7:30 p.m. in the funeral home. He will be laid to rest in Missouri Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
