Lewis Edward Stevens beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend passed away peacefully at home while holding his wife’s hand on Sunday, February 11, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. Lewis was born on April 9, 1953, to Clifford Stevens and Fern Watts Stevens in Springfield, Missouri where he also lived for most of his life.
Lewis began his professional career with the Missouri Highway Patrol as a Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officer. His time with the Highway Patrol would become a gateway to his passion of researching laws and statues pertaining to commercial vehicles and a 42-year career in the commercial trucking industry in safety and administration for MWT, Indiana Western Express, Circle Express, and IWX Motor Freight.
On April 15, 1982, Lewis met the love of his life, Myrna, on a blind date. On their second date Lewis was supposed to bring paper plates that wouldn’t bend to accompany the picnic food Myrna brought. When he showed up empty handed the date then moved to the grocery store searching for the sturdiest plates they could find and then enjoyed a nice outdoor date. They were married in a beautiful backyard wedding on July 16, 1983, surrounded by family and friends. Their wonderful 40-year marriage was filled with love, travel, family, rooting on Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls, friends, yearly Indy 500 race trips, and making memories together.
Lewis is survived by his loving wife, Myrna of 40 years; his sons, Dan Stevens (wife Jami), Raymond Stevens and ChrIstopher Stevens; stepdaughters, Stephanie Stephens (husband Chris) and Jennifer Weaver Mycoff (husband Bryan Mycoff). Lewis was an amazing grandfather (Papa) to eight grandchildren: Dante Stevens, Jasmine Weaver, Cullan O’Toole, Bella Mycoff, Kaylee Stevens, Vivian Mycoff, and Molly O’Toole; and one very special great-granddaughter, Violet Weaver.
A Celebration of Life for Lewis will be held on Saturday March 2, 2024, at 1:00 pm, at Parkcrest Baptist Church located at 816 West Republic Road, Springfield, Mo.
