Lillian Woodard of Springfield, MO, was born in Kansas City, MO, on April 22, 1916. She died November 27, 2010. She married Leslie C. Juhl and they had a son, James E. Juhl. Later, she married A.R. Woodard on June 17, 1947, and they had 33 years together.
Her parents James H. and Mayme A. (Gill) Slater; her husband A.R. Woodard, and a grandson John Hugh Juhl precede her in death.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law James E. and Ellen B. Juhl of Boca Raton, FL; two grandsons: James E. Juhl, Jr. of Deerfield Beach, FL, and Joseph A. Juhl of Delray Beach, FL; also surviving are wonderful friends, Linda and John Smarker. Linda was like a daughter to her and held a special place in her heart. John was always there when needed; and special friends for over 40 years, Paul and La Donna Melbye. They moved from Minnesota after she and Woody did. They too, were available at all times when needed. She leaves behind many friends including her “3M Family” and friends.
She enjoyed reading, doing counted cross stitch, making quilts, playing bridge and traveling as long as her health permitted. She drove her friends in and around Springfield, to enjoy the beauty of the area and they like to try new places to eat out. She always had a positive outlook on life due to her caring network of friends. She looked forward to meeting and having lunch with the 3M retirees the first Monday of every month. She was a big fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and was happy when the Springfield Cardinals could bring the St. Louis Cardinals to play here.
She and her husband moved to Springfield from St. Paul, Minnesota, in April 1969. She was employed by Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing (3M) for 12 ½ years as the Plant manager’s secretary and was also Personnel Assistant. This job allowed her to do one of the things she enjoyed most, interacting with all the employees. She was a people person. She retired from 3M October 1981. In 1982 she went to work part time for Dean Walter, an agent for State Farm Ins. as a secretary for 9 years. She also volunteered at St. John’s Hospital as a receptionist; again she enjoyed the contact with people.
She was a member of the Eastern Star, The White Shrine and the Amaranth in St. Paul, MN, and was active in all three.
