Linda McGilvry Floyd of Springfield, Missouri was taken home to be with Jesus on July 3rd, 2026. We are heartbroken but we praise the Lord for the time we had and the life she lived. We know this life is temporary and not our home for those who believe.
Linda was born on June 3rd, 1947, in Springfield, Missouri to Robert and Mary McGilvry. She graduated from Central High School in 1965. After graduation, she worked as a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell. This was her dream job. She loved working the switchboard and could still tell you every area code by heart. She married Charles Edward Phillips after high school. Sadly, their marriage was cut short when he did not return from Vietnam. They had one daughter, Belinda Ann Phillips. Linda met John Floyd while working at Hiland Dairy and they married on March 21st, 2015. They went to Scotland for their honeymoon and had the trip of a lifetime.
Linda had other jobs she loved including being a switchboard operator in Beardstown, Illinois, a receptionist at ICI Acrylics in Olive Branch, Mississippi, and last but not least, a receptionist at Hiland Dairy in Springfield, Missouri where she retired in 2012. This was the perfect job for her because she loved ice cream (especially right off the line), talking to coworkers and clients, joking around, and she never met a stranger.
She loved the Lord, His Word, and those around her fiercely. Linda was generous, caring, put other’s needs above her own, and looked for ways to build people up. If you needed a word of encouragement or someone to listen over a hot cup of coffee, she was your girl.
Linda enjoyed cheering on the Nebraska Cornhuskers, her pets (Husker and Daphne), shopping, playing cards, time with family, driving anywhere and everywhere, traveling with Belinda and Elizabeth, getting her steps in at Walmart, attending church, and most of all being in the Word and spending time with the Lord.
Linda is preceded in death by her parents, Mary Elizabeth and Robert J. McGilvry; sister, Barbara McGilvry Phillips, and Charles Phillips.
Linda is survived by her husband John of Marshfield, Missouri; Belinda Banta of Ozark, Missouri; daughter, Elizabeth Banta Pickering of Ozark, Missouri; granddaughter, her husband William Pickering, and great granddaughter, Isabella Pickering; brother-in-law, Larry Phillips and his three sons, Phil Phillips and his son, Steven Phillips and his wife Melody and son Everett, Danny Phillips, and Mark Phillips and his wife Alyssa and their two children, Madi and Jack; and many more relatives and friends.
