Lois Buchanan (age 78) passed away April 12, 2017 at home surrounded by family after a brief illness. Lois was born in Clinton, MO on October 7, 1938 and moved to Springfield, MO at her mother’s death. She lived with her sister and brother-in-law, Geraldine and Lloyd Hotsenpillar, until she graduated Central Senior High in 1956. She married Ray Buchanan in 1957. They were married 56 years and shared four children together. Lois was employed with Cox Hospital until retirement. She was active a total of six years in PTA at Sherwood Elementary and Watkins Elementary. Lois is survived by four children, Lana and David Lowery, Steve Buchanan, Jennifer and Dan Swisher and Leah and Dennis Franka; five grandchildren, Richard Choate, Ashley Buchanan, and Shannon and Sara Highfill; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Verna Quattlebaum and brother, Calvin Childers. Lois is preceded in death by her husband, Ray; parents, Audie and Augusta Childers; sister, Geraldine; and brothers, Melvin, Carroll, Duane and Dennis. Lois was a loving, energetic woman who never met a stranger. She always had a smile on her face and a good story to tell. She was loved and will be missed by many. The family would like to thank her granddaughters, Shannon and Sara, for their around the clock care and love they gave their grandmother in her final weeks. Visitation for Lois will take place on Friday, April 14, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Greenlawn Funeral Home North. Funeral services will be on Saturday, April 15, at 10:00 AM, with burial immediately following at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
