Loretta Mae Shaffer (nee Rathbun) passed on the 27th day of January, 2013, meeting her savior face to face, at the age of 82. She was reunited with her husband, David and parents, Gentry and Goldie.
Loretta was a devoted wife of David E. Shaffer, for 51 years, who preceded her in death. Loretta is survived by her son, Mike (Terry) Shaffer of St Louis, Missouri and daughter, Shari (Dana) Edwards of Springfield, Missouri; loving grandmother to Jeff Adams, Clay Shaffer, Brian Adams, Eric Shaffer, Sarah Benz, Jonathan Benz, Derek Benz, Christopher Edwards and Andrew Edwards; and nine great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and her sister, Charlotte Combs; sister-in-law and best friend, Nellie Barner, all of who will miss her dearly.
Loretta was born July 13, 1930, in Springfield and lived her life working as a homemaker, in retail and devoting time to her church and church friends. For many years she helped and worked with her parents, Gentry and Goldie Rathbun, in retail and rental properties. At the age of 75, Loretta, Charlotte and their mother, totally renovated a 114 year old home and received public recognition for their accomplishments.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Hamlin Memorial Baptist Church, 829 West Atlantic, Springfield, MO, 65803.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 30, 2013 in Greenlawn Funeral Home North with burial to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 29, 2013 from 6-8 p.m., in the funeral home.
