Lou Ann Compton, 78, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 29th, in Springfield, Missouri. Born May 12th, 1947, in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, Lou Ann was the daughter of Ralph and Edith Clark. Her family moved to Springfield in 1954, where she graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1965.
Lou Ann’s early jobs were at the original Glo Cleaners and Busy Bee Downtown Department Stores. She also worked many years cleaning homes and businesses. Alongside Lester, her husband of 43 years, she served Pleasant Valley Church for over 35 years, organizing dinners, events, and maintaining the church grounds with pride and dedication.
In her later years, Lou Ann found joy in crossword puzzles and never missed an episode of Family Feud, especially when hosted by her main man Steve Harvey. She also never let a coupon go to waste. Her greatest joy, however, was feeding those she loved. Whether it was fresh vegetables, or a homemade pie, Lou Ann made sure no one left her home empty-handed.
She was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her husband Lester; brother Larry Clark (Carol) of Broken Arrow, OK; son Don Van Hise (Darleah) of Lake Ozark; daughter Autumn Gyurcsik (Jason) of Springfield; grandsons Derek, Drew, and Dylan Van Hise; step-granddaughters Abrielle and Evelynn Newhart; and many beloved fur grandbabies over the years.
A visitation and service will be held Wednesday, September 3rd, at Greenlawn North Funeral Home from 5–7pm, with a short service beginning at 6pm.
