Mary LouWana (Lou) Carver
Mary LouWana Carver (Lou), age 91, of Springfield, Mo., passed away late Tuesday afternoon February 1st, 2011, following a brief period of complications from heart failure and a stroke. Thanks to Oxford Hospice, her doctor Richard Cunningham, and her Heavenly Father, Lou was able to be home in her own bed as she slipped peacefully from this life to her next.
LouWana was born December 7, 1919 in Sharp County, Arkansas. A part of the uncompromising “Greatest Generation”, Lou was still an active member of the East Sunshine Church of Christ, Delta Kappa Gamma, Retired Teacher’s Association, St. John’s Hospital Auxiliary, her Saturday evening driving and dining gang, and a staunch Democrat. While in Batesville, Ark., she had been an educator and librarian within the Arkansas public school system and Lyon College, and member of Eastern Star. She loved gardening, travel, sewing and painting.
Lou was preceded in death by her loving husband, Basel; her parents, Luther and Frances Denton; three sisters; and two brothers.
She is survived by a sister, Jackie Reeves and husband Lonnie; a brother, Luther Denton; a daughter, Debra Carver; a daughter. Nena Dockery and husband David; a granddaughter, Angela Broadnax and husband Jeremy; a grandson, Mike Dockery and wife Mara; and her beloved great-grandson Branden Broadnax.
Her funeral will be Friday, 11:00 a.m. in Greenlawn Funeral Home East, in Springfield, Mo. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be held in Oaklawn Cemetary in Batesville, Ark., where she will be interred beside Basel.
Thanks to all of those in and around Springfield, Mo., and Batesville, Ark., who showered and surrounded Lou with a steady stream of kind notes and prayers expressing hope that she would get better. Those petitions have been answered. “No eye has seen, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love Him.” This, we believe.
