Lucille “Lou” Smith of Willard made the journey to her heavenly home on August 29, 2012 after a long and blessed life of 98 years. Lucille was born to James and Gulfa Tindle in rural Willard on March 3, 1914. The Tindle family would grow to include a total of eight daughters. She married James Smith on June 1, 1932 and moved to Des Moines, IA. for a number of years. Their marriage was blessed with three sons. She moved back to Springfield in 1970 and to Willard in 1982. She was a well-known resident of the Willard Retirement Village and was active for many years at the Willard Senior Center. Lucille had a great love for her family and for her savior, Jesus Christ. This love was evident in the way she lived out her faith and loved her family with an unfailing love. She had a true love for people and was a special friend to many. Lucille is survived by her sons, Jerry Smith, of Des Moines, IA., Kenneth Smith and daughter-in-law, Sharon, of Harrison, MI, and daughter-in-law, Flo Smith of Long Beach, CA, three sisters, Patricia Stewart, Reba Booker and husband, Arlie, Martha Young and husband, Robert, and a brother-in-law, June Wilson, all of Springfield, 10 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 12 great-great grandchildren and many special nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents, a son, Bobby Smith, and four sisters Audrey Simmons, Rosie Clement, Eldora Rook, and Betty Wilson. Funeral services will be held Sunday, September 2 at Greenlawn Funeral Home, 3506 N. National, Sprinfield at 2:00 pm, with visitation prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 pm. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery, Monday, September 3 at 9:00 am. Memorial contributions can be made to Empire Bank, 2501 N. Kansas Exwy, Springfield and will be distributed among her favorite charities.
