Lyssa Jane Hurley, 62-years-old, passed away on Friday, September 6, 2013 at her home in Springfield, MO. After battling colorectal cancer, she finally won the war as she embraced her heavenly Father when He said, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
Lyssa is survived by her husband, John, three children and their spouses, Cari and Russ Hurst, Brad and April Hurley, and Katie and Eric Levell, and one brother, Bryan Loffer. She was Mimi to six beautiful grandchildren: Colin and Evan Hurley, Jonathan and Jordan Hurst, and Tyler and Addison Levell. She is rejoicing in heaven with her parents, Bill and Phyllis Loffer, and sister, Debbie Smithson.
Although she was born in Coffeyville, Kansas, Lyssa spent the majority of her life in the Ozarks. John and Lyssa were married for 42 years. They shared an enduring love that few people find in a lifetime. As a mother, she stood as a constant pillar of love and prayer. Lyssa wore many hats through the years, but her favorite one was “Mimi.” Whether she was wielding a play sword, having pretend tea for three on the floor, or handing out ice cream; she was always training and teaching her grandkids the Father’s heart.
The faith she lived was the fruit of a rich heritage in the Lord. She was given a true gift of faith that sustained her through the valley and carried others to the mountain top. The story of her life left an impression on all those she came into contact with and her legacy will continue to live on.
Services for Lyssa Hurley will be at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, September 12, 2013 at Hope Community Church Springfield, Missouri under the care of Greenlawn Funeral Home East. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday September 11, 2013 in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be sent to Hope Church, 2121 Blackman Rd., Springfield MO 65809 c/o: Lyssa Hurley Memorial Fund.
