M. Emojean Hembree was born August 26, 1916 to the late I.S. (Sim) and E. Blanche (Hopkins) Reynolds. She passed away Friday, January 28, 2011 in Parkview Health Care Facility in Bolivar.
She was second of six children. She was preceded in death by her first husband, W.M. (Bill) Jenkins in 1972 and in 1975 she married Lawrence Hembree who died November 2, 2001. Her son Ron Jenkins died November 2, 2008. Also preceding her in death are her three brothers, Oliver (Thomas), Charles W., and Jerry M. Reynolds.
Emojean graduated from Fair Play High School in 1935. she received her Bachelor’s of Science from SMSU and her Master’s Degree in Education from Drury University, with additional hours for Librarian Science Specialist also from SMSU. She taught school and was a librarian for 42 years in various locations, like Halfway, Fair Play, El Dorado Springs and spent her final days in Bolivar teaching third grade and as Librarian. She also enjoyed coaching basketball. She retired in 1982.
She was a member of the Bolivar United Methodist Church. She made a profession of faith as a young teen in Barren Creek Presbyterian Church.
She lived a long, fulfilled life. She was active in her church, the Retired Teachers Asscociation, and was active in Delta Kappa Gama, serving as president from 1968-1970. She is survived by her sisters, Elizabeth Hammons and Ora (Ann) Brown. She is also survived by a step-daughter, Anna Laura Hopkins; her sons, Leonard and Leslie and their children; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
