Mary Margaret (Eaton) Dillabough, 86, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2025. She was born on April 13, 1939, to Billie and Ernest Eaton. Mary Margaret was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Floyd Dillabough; her son, Michael Meier; her sister, Elizabeth Anne Eaton; and her parents.
A graduate of Central High School, Mary Margaret spent many years dedicating herself to her community, particularly as a volunteer for the Salvation Army, where she contributed over 25 years of service. She was also a proud member of Pathways United Methodist Church.
In addition to her community work, Mary Margaret had a passion for writing. After the passing of her grandmother, Mary Hair, she took over writing the “Much in a Basket” column for the Crane Chronicle, which had originally been penned by her grandmother under the pen name “Samanthy.” Mary Margaret carried on this beloved column, continuing the family tradition of sharing local stories and observations with the community.
Mary Margaret had a great love for nature, particularly bird watching, and found joy in antiquing and garage sales. She was also known for her skill in cooking and loved preparing meals for her family and friends.
She is survived by her children, Cathy (Mike) Hawkins, Ray (Tara) Dillabough, and Earl (Lydia) Dillabough; her many grandchildren; and her great-grandchildren. She was also deeply loved by her two cats, Spike and Jasmine, who brought her much companionship in her later years.
Mary Margaret’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew her. She will be remembered for her kindness, her warmth, and her unwavering devotion to her family and community.
The family would like to thank Seasons Hospice for their compassionate and loving care.
