Margaret Cobb, 96, died in Springfield, December 7, 2010. She was born and reared in Bedford, Iowa and moved to Springfield in 1943, where she has since resided.
Prior to her marriage in Iowa, she taught school for five years in one-room schoolhouses, teaching students at all levels of grades K-8.
In 1939, she married Wayne Cobb after a seven-year courtship. Their intentions were to marry when the Depression was over, but they finally decided to marry anyway. She was a very successful homemaker throughout her married life. After her husband’s retirement, they traveled extensively, visiting more than 30 states. Margaret, Wayne, and their three children had a happy family life. She and Wayne enjoyed 50 years of marriage prior to his death in 1989.
She was a very active member of the North National/Water Mill Church of Christ for 66 years, participating in teaching, weekly quilting for sixty-five years, cooking for families in need, visiting shut-ins, and serving children in the Fair Haven Children’s Home.
Margaret is survived by two daughters, Lois Howard (Jim) of Madison, MS, and Marilyn Sanderson (Leon) of Memphis, TN; a son, Steve Cobb (Beth) of Willard; a sister, Gwen Jones and sister-in-law, Betty Turner, both of Bedford, IA. She also leaves seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Margaret Cobb will be held in Greenlawn Funeral Home North on Friday, December 10, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. Burial to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 P.M. on Thursday, December 9, also in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Fair Haven Children’s Home.
