Marguerite Nina “Peggy” Abernathy, 85, Springfield, Missouri, died on March 25, 2013 at 2:09 pm in her home.
The daughter of George and Stella Visio, she was born November 25, 1927 in Springfield, MO. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Harold Abernathy and infant daughter, Nancy Jeanne. They were married on January 20, 1946 in Washington, DC and celebrated life together for 50 years. She is survived by a son and his wife, John Harold (Sheryl) Abernathy, Lemont, IL; two daughters, Jane Ann (Mark) Thornton, Houston, TX and Marilyn Gale Sweet, Springfield, MO. Lovingly known as DeeDee by her six grandchildren, Ryan and Kylie Abernathy, Jennifer (Phil) Faries, Jessica Pace, Stephanie (Ford) Byrne, and Andy Sweet; 4 great-grandchildren Allison and Natalie Byrne; Olivia and Grace Faries. Fond sister of Hank (Dot) Visio and Evelyn (Don) Radosevic. She was an Aunt to many nieces and nephews.
One of Peggy’s special gifts was making everyone around her feel special, loved and important. Her home was always open to generations of family and friends. Her family was a very precious part of her life. She shared her faith in God in her everyday actions and was a blessing to so many.
Peggy worked for American Business Systems for many years before starting her own family business AB Ceramics which she enjoyed for 21 years. She developed many special friendships through Ceramics, Quilting, Church and other activities.
She was a member of South Haven Baptist Church for 40 years. She treasured her many friendships in the Esther Sunday School class. She was involved in several organizations; President of Mark Twain PTA and Professional Secretary Association, as well as numerous other Church and Women’s groups.
Visitation will be from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm on Thursday, March 28, 2013 at Greenlawn South Funeral Home. The Service will be Friday, March 29, 2013 at 10:00 am at Greenlawn South Funeral Home with the Rev. Ryan Palmer officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Association of your choice or South Haven Baptist Church Esther Class Mission Fund.
