Marilyn Kay Baker (Davidson) entered Heaven on February 5, 2024 surrounded by her devoted husband of 54 years and loving family after a courageous 15-year battle with Parkinson’s.
Marilyn was born September 23, 1948 in Fulton, Missouri. She was the fourth and youngest child of Wilbur and Helen (Williamson) Davidson. She grew up on a farm and enjoyed riding horses. After completing high school, Marilyn had secretarial training, which included short hand. She was employed as an assistant clerk at Callaway County Magistrate Court. She met her spouse while working at the court. After she married, she remained home to care for her children.
On January 23, 1970, Marilyn married William “Bill” C. Baker in Reedsville, Missouri. Together they worked to raise their two sons. Bill’s career as a Missouri State Highway Patrolman moved the family from Fulton to Jefferson City to Eldon and finally to Springfield, Missouri, where they resided for more than 30 years. She had a strong faith, was a member of the Assemblies of God, and was actively involved in the church. Other interests include gardening, music, Bible reading, prayer, and animals. She especially loved dogs. Marilyn loved any sweet treat including cookies and Andy’s Frozen Custard. Marilyn had a witty sense of humor and loved to sit outside in the warmth of the sun. She also loved spending time with her granddaughter.
Marilyn is survived by her husband Bill, sons W. Karl (Meredith), Jason (Gina) Baker and granddaughter Bellisima. Her siblings James Davidson (Joyce), Marjorie Payne (Jack), Bonnie Felkner (Morris), Sister-in-law Jan Baker, many nieces, nephews and dear friends. Her parents, as well as a brother-in-law, nephew and niece preceded her in death.
Marilyn changed her outlook on life in the early 1970’s turning her heart to the Lord. She loved Jesus and her family. Her kindness and gentle smile made a person feel better about themselves. She will be greatly missed. The family would like to thank the staff of Springfield Rehabilitation & HealthCare Center and Haven Hospice for their care and compassion. Her children and family would like to publicly acknowledge and thank Dad/Bill for his amazing devotion to her during their 54 years of marriage and especially during her time of illness. He exemplified love in his everyday care.
Proverbs 30:28 “Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also he praises her”
Mark 5:34 “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering.”
Services for Marilyn will be at 12:30 pm Friday, February 9, 2024 at Greenlawn Funeral Home East. Interment will follow at Missouri Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm Friday prior to the service.
