Marion “Bill” Workman, 83, of Springfield, MO, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Tuesday, February 10, 2026. Bill was born on October 19, 1942, in Portia, AR, to Marion Workman and Pearl (Shepard) Workman.
Bill was a truly kind, hardworking, and giving man who could accomplish anything he set his mind to. For over 40 years, he faithfully served as a Parts Salesman with Friendly Ford in Springfield, Missouri. Bill was also known as a master mechanic, skilled body man, and trusted expert in all things automotive. If something needed fixing, Bill could fix it—and if he didn’t know how yet, he would learn. There was nothing he set his mind to that he couldn’t accomplish.
Bill also proudly served in the United States Navy during the Bay of Pigs. Stationed aboard the USS Shangri-La (CV-38), he assisted in guiding pilots safely back to the flight deck; but his favorite duty was serving as the ship’s barber, where he could visit, laugh, and swap stories with his fellow sailors.
Bill’s talents reached far beyond his profession. Whether repairing cars, improving his home, or helping a neighbor, Bill worked with determination, patience, and heart. He never hesitated to lend a hand and always put others before himself. Bill also enjoyed working on cars, following NASCAR racing, gardening, traveling, and spending time with family. Above all, he cherished wife, Kathleen, and caring for her and his family.
Bill will be remembered for his kind-hearted, light-spirited, and quick with a story that could make anyone laugh. He was hardworking, compassionate, self-sacrificing, and deeply faithful. He leaves behind a legacy of strength, resilience, integrity, unwavering faith in God, and a work ethic that inspired all who knew him. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 49 years, Kathleen Workman; his father, Marion Workman; his mother, Pearl (Shepherd) Workman; and his sister, Glenda (Workman) Kirk.
He is survived by his brothers, Jerry Workman (Diane) and Mike Workman (Connie); his children, Robert Dean Workman (Tammy), Brandon Workman, Keli (Workman) Riley, and Jill (Workman) Sisney (Jason); nine grandchildren who affectionately called him Papaw and Pappy, Ashley Jennings; Brooke Farthing; Dalton Workman; Andrew Riley (Tasha); Mackenzie Riley; Delaney Riley; Courtney (Raby) North; Megan Raby; Caleb Raby (Liz), along with twelve great-grandchildren, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A Memorial and Visitation Service will be held Thursday, February 19, 2026, at 6:00 PM at Greenlawn Funeral Home South in Springfield, Missouri.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Bill’s memory to Restoration Church, Springfield, Missouri.
