Mark “Randy” Asbell, age 72, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away at Cox South Hospital on March 25, 2024. Randy was born to Forrest and Minnie Darlene (Powley) Asbell on February 25, 1952, in Springfield, Missouri. He was raised in Springfield and graduated from Central High School in 1970.
For more than 20 years, Randy provided daily transportation services for residents and workers within the local Amish communities. He was known to be kind, dependable, and very likeable among those he served. Randy was the type of person who would have done anything for anyone at any given time. For Randy, his family and friends always came first. He also loved dirt track racing and he especially liked to drive Bomber Car #65.
Randy was preceded in death by his father, Forrest Lee Asbell; mother, Minnie Darlene Powley; brother, Lane Asbell; brother, Jeff Asbell; great-grandson, Markum Eagleburger; and great-grandson, Logan Folsom.
He is survived by his son, Mark Asbell and his wife, Bethany; daughter, Aimee Folsom; step-daughter, Velma Jo Renfro and her husband, John; grandchildren: Kelsey Ernst and her husband, Robert; Audra Asbell; Druanne Eagleburger and her husband, Robert; Maylee Asbell; Darlene Asbell; LeeAnn Asbell, Zach Folsom and his wife Lori, Jeff Folsom and his wife Jessica, and Krysten Renfro; great-grandchildren: Isaiah Asbell, Tre Asbell, Aurorah Asbell, Dominic Eagleburger, Marklea Eagleburger, Willow Renfro, Draven Renfro, Clay Gentry, Chloe Gentry, Lillian Folsom, Kaylea Folsom, Gabriel Folsom, and Blair Ernst; brother, Anthony Asbell and his wife, Judy; brother, Darren MacDonald “Mac” Asbell; sister, Gretchen “Casey” Hendrick and her husband, Paul; and nephew, William “B.J.” Oxendine.
Randy is also survived by his close friends: Ken Scott, Tim Shelton, Gary Smith, Greg Earl, along with the entire Amish community. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A funeral service for Randy Asbell will be held on Friday, April 5, 2024, 1:00 pm, at Greenlawn Funeral Home North in Springfield, Missouri. Randy will be laid to rest in the Bona Cemetery located in northeastern Dade County, Missouri. Following the service, there will be a formal procession from the funeral home to the cemetery. Randy’s good friend, Greg Earl, will officiate the funeral service.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Randy Asbell Go Fund Me account. The family would like to thank everyone for coming together in support of Randy during this time of sorrow and need.
