Martha Emogene Bumgarner Hedgpeth was born July 5,1919 at
Marshfield, Missouri to John A. and Cora Jane Hobson Bumgarner.
At the age of 6 years old the family moved to Rogersville, Missouri. There she attended Elm Grove School thru the 8th grade, then attended
Rogersville High School graduating with the class of 1936 of which she was the last surviving member. She was involved in music and playing the violin which she enjoyed throughout her life.
January 9,1937 she was married to Ivan Hedgpeth. Together they farmed and had several service stations in Rogersville, Missouri. She was a member of Harmony Baptist Church, Rogersville, Missouri where she attended faithfully. She loved working in the church library, reading, gardening, crafts. She played her violin with the string band until her health prohibited her from doing so. After Ivan’s death in 1991 she helped a son in a store he owned. She loved to travel, going to Israel, Canada, St. Marten, Jamaica, Alaska and several other states with her daughter and son-in-law. She particularly loved spending time with her family.
Emogene had a kind heart and was a very loving Mother and Grandmother.
She was always willing to help friends and family in anyway needed. She always had a twinkle in her eye and a smile on her face. She will be greatly missed by her surviving family and friends.
She is survived by three son and their wives, Charles and Carol Hedgpeth, Rogersville Missouri, Lary and Peggy Hedgpeth, Battlefield, Missouri,
Roger and Peggy Hedgpeth, Springfield, Missouri; one daughter and husband, Mary and Dr. Richard Eakins, Nixa, Missouri; one daughter-in-law Kathie Hedgpeth, Rogersville, Missouri; ten grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren and numerous
nieces and nephews.
She is proceeded in death by her husband, Ivan, a son David Hedgpeth,2 grandsons Kevin Hedgpeth and Rick Eakins, her parents and 2 sisters and 3 brothers.
Graveside services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, November 2, 2013 at Holland Cemetery Rogersville, Missouri under the care of Greenlawn Funeral Home East.
Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday, November 1, 2013 in the funeral home.
