Mary Ann Wood Smith passed away unexpectedly at her home in Springfield on Wednesday, April 1, 2020. Mary Ann was born to parents John and Chloe Methvin Harber in Viola, Arkansas on August 23, 1941. She is survived by sons John Wood and Alex Smith and daughter, Ronda Paist, all of Springfield, along with their families. Mary Ann’s sister Dr. Erma Ruth Wood of Little Rock, Arkansas also survives, as do five grandchildren, one great granddaughter, and two nephews. Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents.
A licensed professional counselor, Mary Ann achieved a Master’s Degree in Guidance and Counseling from then Southwest Missouri State University. She worked in California before returning to the Ozarks where she maintained a private counseling practice until recent years. She was of the Christian faith. Mary Ann maintained a keen interest in current events and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She was especially proud of the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren.
