Mary Elizabeth Dillon, 93, of Springfield, Mo., departed this life on Oct.25, 2013, after months of declining health. Mary entered this life on April 11th, 1920 in Augusta, Kansas, born to the late Charlie Jefferson and Mary Ruth (Winchel) Hiterbrand. She was a 1937 Central High School graduate.
In 1940, she was united in marriage to Wilburn Marion Cunningham; they shared 22 years of marriage. She married Glenn Dillon on Christmas Eve of 1978. Mary worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. for 33 years. She was a member of the Pioneer Club, American Women’s Business Club, and a big contributor to Central Methodist College.
After retiring she volunteered to take cancer patients to their doctors’ appointments. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She loved traveling, playing cards, and china painting. She was a long time member of Schweitzer United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie Jefferson and Mary Ruth (Winchel) Hiterbrand, a son Kenneth Eugene, daughter Carole Hayden and her husbands, Wilburn Cunningham and Glenn Dillon, and one sister Norma Sass.
She is survived by her son Danny and wife Vicky Cunningham of Reed Springs, her daughter Darcy and husband Jim Wilkinson, Joplin, Mo. and nine grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and one nephew.
Services for Mary will be Tuesday, October 29, 2013, at 1:30 p.m. in Schweitzer United Methodist Church with visitation at 1:00 p.m., 30 minutes prior. Services have been entrusted to Greenlawn Funeral Home South.
