Mary Francis (Mingus) Vaughan, age 83, passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior on March 2, 2024, at her home in Springfield. Mary was born to John Pose Mingus and Leota Lois (Keeler) Mingus on March 31, 1940, in Wright County, Missouri. She graduated from Marshfield High School in 1958.
Mary, a devoted Baptist, attended Ridgecrest Baptist Church with her husband, Jimmy Darrell Vaughan, whom she married on September 2, 1961, in Harrison, Arkansas. Their union lasted 56 years before Jimmy’s untimely passing in 2017. Mary dedicated 36 years of her life working at JC Penney’s department store. She enjoyed watching Lady Bears basketball games, had a flair for dressing in style, and liked to sing and entertain her loved ones at Mingus family get-togethers.
Mary also loved to shop, listen to country music, and bake. Her coconut cream pies were second to none. Her beverages of choice were coffee and Diet Coke, which she drank every day; and her favorite indulgences included snack cakes and candy. Nothing, however, brought her more joy and fulfillment than spending time with family. Mary’s legacy of unconditional love, hospitality, and strong Christian values will last forever in the hearts of those she loved.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, John and Leota Mingus; husband, Jimmy Vaughan; and son, Mark Vaughan. She is survived by her son, Rick Vaughan, of Springfield; son, Ron Vaughan and wife, Ashley of Aldrich and their children, Garrett and MacKenzie. She is also survived by her grandson, Jonathan Vaughan and wife, Lindsey of Springfield and their children, Levi, Hazel, and Tanner; grand-daughter, Jessica Coon and her husband, Isaiah of Battlefield and their children, Charlie and Frankie; and grandson, Jason Vaughan and wife, Chloe of Walnut Grove and their children, Peyton and Emily. She also leaves behind a brother, Johnny Mingus and wife, Glenda; brother, Jack Mingus and wife, Marilyn, all residing in Seymour; and brother, Jim Mingus and wife, Penny of Rogersville.
A visitation for Mary will be held on Thursday, March 7, 2024, from 10:00-11:00 am, at Greenlawn Funeral Home North in Springfield. Mary’s funeral service will be held at 11:00 am following her visitation. Mary will be laid to rest next to her husband in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
