Marty Roubik left a message on June 13, 2018:
Mary and I shared a complicated relationship as mother-in-law and son-in-law. She was a gentle eccentric. She was whimsical, and possessed so many alternatingly endearing, and sometimes maddening, childlike behaviors that made it impossible to not love her given those qualities. She loved parades, costumes, jumpsuits, costume jewelry, horror novels, and deviled eggs. She over salted every meal I prepared for her and, she hated broccoli. I would place a meal in front of her, she would level her impish and defiant gaze at me, and reach for the salt and cover the plate with a powdery dusting before ever reaching the fork to her mouth. I would quietly retaliate by placing broccoli on her plate. We maintained that passive-aggressive stalemate for 28 years. We had an understanding, between our mutual verbal barbs, that we loved one another. We tried to be as kind to each other as our own narcissism allowed. I loved her. I will miss her. I'd take it all back now and not put that broccoli on her plate.
