Matt Wakeley, 82, of Springfield, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2026, in Springfield, Missouri. He was born November 16, 1943, in Crofton, Nebraska.

Matt was a hardworking man who spent many years working as a diesel mechanic before moving into management. He took great pride in his work and was known for his strong work ethic, dedication, and ability to make others laugh. Matt never met a stranger and was loved for his joking personality and kind heart.

For 38 years, Matt was a faithful member of Second Baptist Church, where he found friendship, community, and spiritual encouragement.

Above all else, Matt loved his family. He especially treasured time spent playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, creating memories they will carry with them forever. He also had a deep love for fishing and enjoyed spending peaceful days on the water.

Matt is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn Wakeley; his daughter, Lynette McBride; his son, Mark Wakeley; grandson, Jesse Welch; granddaughter, Rosabell Rios-Wakeley; and great-grandsons, Matthew Welch and Marek Welch.  He was preceded in death by his son, Kenneth Wakeley.

Matt will be remembered for his laughter, his hardworking spirit, his love for family, and the joy he brought to those around him. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at Greenlawn Funeral Home East, 3540 E. Seminole, in Springfield. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at the funeral home.  Burial will follow at 1:30 p.m., at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery, 1638 East Highway 76, in Branson, Missouri.
