Matthew Francis Trokey, Esq. departed this life on March 22, 2023. He was sixty-two years old. Matt was born fourth of four children to Morgan Joseph Trokey, Sr. and Mary Frances (Doyle) Trokey in St. Louis, Missouri. The family moved to Springfield, Missouri where he began fifth grade, ultimately graduating from Kickapoo High School. He was active in sports throughout his

My sincerest condolences to Matt's family and friends. He was one of the first people that I had the opportunity to meet when I moved into the Branson area in 2009. He was incredibly welcoming and one of the most down to earth professionals that I have ever had the chance to work with. I'm thankful that our paths had to the opportunity to cross. I'll especially miss catching up about family, talking sports and music. Matt will be greatly missed.

We are so sorry for your loss. Our hearts are breaking for you all. Matt was an incredible one of a kind man !! He helped us establish our corporation in September of 1993 when we had nothing and continued to help us through the years in many many ways. He did amazing work for us and always gave us sensible sound advice. One things for sure God will no longer have any legal problems with Matt there with Him!!!! Nolan and Babette Fogle

I admired Matt as a great attorney and a great human being. He will be missed. One time, Matt and I were at a real estate closing - a family had sold a motel on Hwy. 76, at a great profit, during the boom years. Every family member got a sizeable check. However, the closing devolved into an ugly, shouting family fight. Matt and I walked out together afterward and he said to me: "I'd rather be poor". That so exemplified his character and values.

Our firm lost both a great young lawyer and an excellent person when Matt left Neale & Newman to practice in Branson. Matt's office was next to mine, and it was a pleasure to work with him. Matt and I had a couple of fun road trips to St. Louis and Chicago on an appeal that we defended in the U.S. Court of Appeals in Chicago--one of the judges browbeat the opposing lawyer, which made us smile until another of the judges then browbeat us. Over the years, it was always enjoyable to work with Matt on cases that he referred to me, and I even had one against him in the Missouri Court of Appeals in Springfield. But Matt was much more than an excellent lawyer. He was an outstanding person as well. He loved Jane and his family and was proud of Kate and Cole--and he was quick to talk about them. It was special that Kate, who worked for our firm before she went to law school, was able to practice with Matt. I send prayers and condolences to the whole family.

We first met at deposition as young Springfield associates years ago on opposite sides in a federal case, before Matt moved to his Branson firm. A heated exchange ensued on the record between us (wish I had the transcript) as young bucks tend to do so we stopped the record and we "stepped outside" . We finished our fracas- just he and I, something like "you done, yeah...you, yeah" and that was it. Been friends ever since. Matt was fearless, respectful, gregarious, fun, intelligent, a true friend and family man whom I greatly respect and know we all will greatly miss.

My deepest condolences to the Trokey family. I knew Matt at SMS/Missouri State where we served on the university’s student judicial board. He led us with wisdom and heart. He was the smartest person I knew in college! A brilliant and gracious man who will not be forgotten.

I had one case with Matt; the only experience I had of him. Despite its brevity, I considered him a genuinely honorable man. I'm astounded and saddened to hear of his death. May his soul rest in peace. Amen.

Very shocked and saddened to hear of Matt's passing. Very happy to have been associated with the firm over the years in the ice business, as well as in our personal affairs, as well. Praying for you all!

The last time I spoke with Matt was when he came in for his last haircut which seems like just a few short weeks ago. Although I tried to remain positive in hopes that he would be able to receive treatment and recover, I knew deep down that when he left that would be the last time I would see him. I will miss our talks about music and the trips that he and Jane were planning. My thoughts are with his entire family.

A full account of great, fun & accomplished things about Matt would need its own multi-chapter book (and online website with Halloween costume photos, hunting stories & much more!). Hilariously jovial, & funny always at our family get-togethers--being the closest aged cousin--I was lucky to be naturally paired up with Matt for many great & crazy times over the years. Matt took every opportunity for a good time with friends/family. His professional career & accomplishments speak for themselves (a massive & interesting chapter on its own) ...and his personal life/family are what many can only dream of. They don't make them as unique, and (sometimes) profound and (always) sincere/fun as Matt. I am lucky to have known Matt--closely at times in our childhood, and I am better for it today (especially after visiting him recently and again hearing his positivity and wisdom), Matt's gracious & gregarious nature is something I can take with me forever. It reminds me that Matt will always be the life of the party. Also-- Matt could sing! I heard it first hand just recently---he belted out some of his favorite Ozark Mountain Daredevils vocals ----and it was awesome! --- a special nice remembrance going forward. Thanks sincerely Matt for everything you gave us! You are, & always will be 100% appreciated!!!

It’s hard to believe that Matt is gone. He was a recognized leader in our legal community and was a skilled attorney and mediator. I worked both with him and opposite him on hundreds of cases over the past quarter century. He was always sharp and polite and serious. He was responsible for helping me establish y law firm by offering us our initial space in his building 20 years ago, and continued ti refer us business until he passed away. Usually we miss the opportunity to tell friends how much we admire them and appreciate them, but I am thankful that I got to have a great conversation with Matt where I told him all that and how much I appreciated all he has done for me and my law firm. He was the attorney that we all looked up to and the one I modeled my practice after. I will forever be grateful for his friendship and country wisdom and professionalism. He will be sorely missed and they just don’t make lawyers like Matt anymore. RIP buddy.
