Max Lloyd Murray, Sr., 87, of Springfield, MO, passed away Sunday, September 15, 2013 at Willard Care Center, Willard, MO, with his family by his side. Max was born June 27, 1926, in Springfield, MO, and was one of four children born to Carl and Elsie (Walker) Murray
Max was a proud veteran of World War II. He served in the U. S. Navy from 1944 through 1946, After his service, Max married Ella Sue East on July 28,1946, and they shared 67 years together. Durning his working years, Max was involved in various business ventures in Missouri, including a trash service, The Springfield Regional Stockyards, and cattle farming. He was a long-time deacon and member of Glidewell Baptist Church.
Max was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Jerald and Bill Murray.
He is survived by his wife, Ella Sue of the home;a daughter and son-in-law, Jeannie and Michael Rhoads; three sons and daughter-in-laws, Mark and Loretta Murray, Gordon and Karen Murray and Max and Julie Murray, all of Springfield, MO; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a sister, Olli Mae Knipp of Jefferson City, MO; and countless extended family and friends.
Visitation will be Thursday, September 19, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Greenlawn North Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Friday, September 20, 2013 AT 10:00 A.M., with burial to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
