Maxine Elaine Hunt, age 87, of Mt. Vernon, MO., left this world on November 30, 2010, to meet Jesus, walk the streets of gold, and meet her loved ones that had gone on before her. She was born November 16, 1923, in Upland, NE., to William and Mabel (Brant) Johnson.
She served in the United States Navy during WWII and then attended Draughns Business School for two years. She once slept on a bench in Grand Central Station in New York City because she and her friend arrived a day early for duty. Maxine also traveled to the Holy Land to be baptized in the Jordan River. She later served as a volunteer at Cox North Hospital and Dr.’s Hospital. Maxine had a green thumb for growing house plants, she loved to cook chicken and dumplings and roast beef and potatoes. She also had a great sense of humor and it show in her telling of jokes and always kidding around. Maxine also loved to crochet, do ceramics, and spoil her grandchildren. Her number one interest was in her faith in God.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, William Elmer Johnson and Mabel E. Johnson.
She is survived by daughter, Judy Phillips, Springfield, MO; son, Larry Hunt of Tucson, AZ., daughter, Donna Carl of Mt. Vernon, MO., six grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 4, 2010 at 3:00 P.M. in Greenlawn Funeral Home North. Visitation will be from 2:00 P.M. until service time.
Burial will be held in Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield, MO. on Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. with full military honors by the U.S. Navy.
