McKenzie (Kenzie) Jon Poindexter passed away Friday, November 8, 2013 at Saint Louis Children’s Hospital. She was born December 8th, 1995 in Springfield, Missouri to Jimmy and Angela Poindexter.
Kenzie was an amazing young lady who was caring and kind. Kenzie was quiet but those who knew her well were priviledged to experience her sharp sense of humor. Kenzie’s life was cut short from complications of cystic fibrosis. She struggled with the disease her entire life, but on July 17, 2011 Kenzie received a precious gift in the form of a double lung transplant. This transplant added two years to Kenzie’s life and our family will be forever grateful to the selfless family that made this possible.
One highlight of Kenzie’s life was being granted a wish through The Make-A-Wish Foundation. Kenzie, her mother Angela, her sisters Bailey and Emily, and family friend Missi Taylor were flown to Minneapolis, Minnesota and treated to a shopping spree at The Mall of America.
The family would like to give special thanks to all the doctors, nurses, and other staff at Cox South and Saint Louis Children’s Hospital who have cared for Kenzie over the years.
Kenzie is survived by her mother Angela Wescott Poindexter and her partner Shawn Perryman, her father Jimmy Poindexter and his wife, Shelly; her brother Jesse Poindexter and her sisters Bailey and Emily Poindexter; grandparents Jon and Nancy Wescott and Jim and Patricia Poindexter; great-grandparents George and Maxine Wescott, and Phyllis Harper; aunts and uncles, Jeanna Wescott Hood and her husband Paul and Jason Poindexter as well as many other family members and special friends.
Visitation will be Wednesday, November 13, 2013 from 6pm-8pm at Greenlawn Funeral Home North. Funeral services will be Thursday, November 14 at Bois D’Arc United Methodist Church at 2:00pm. Burial will follow at Wesley Chapel Cemetery near Willard, Missouri. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, The Ronald McDonald House, the Make-A-Wish Foundation or by simply signing your organ donor card to pass along the gift of life.
