Melissa Jean Jamison, age 67, of Springfield, MO passed away on January 24, 2026.
Melissa was born on September 25, 1958, in Springfield, Missouri to Martin and Christine Sue Pettit. Sue’s parents, Everett and Vada Powers also assisted in raising Melissa during very difficult economic times and became parents to her as well.
Melissa earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from the University of Tulsa and served as Nurse Supervisor at Spring Valley Health in Springfield, Missouri. She spent her career helping and healing others as viewed from coworkers who witnessed her kindness and happiness to her patients.
Although we grieve at her passing, the eternal life is peaceful and everlasting. As we miss Melissa’s earthly form, we are assured she is no longer in pain. No more sadness will she feel and no more tears will she cry.
Melissa saw her share of challenges, but she learned how to love and heal in the time she had here. She was truly a blessing to so many. She is now in the arms of her Lord! Grief is left behind for us, to reflect on who she was, and be proud of the legacy she left for all that loved her so dearly. She will remain in our memories.
Melissa was preceded in death by her parents, Martin Pettit and Christine Sue Reeves and her grandparents, Everett and Vada Powers. She is survived by her son, Dane Ray, siblings Devri Mills, Louann Stevens, and Stephanie Reeves, and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 12:00 p.m. (Noon), February 4th at Green Lawn South Funeral Home in Springfield, MO. The service will be live-streamed for friends and family unable to attend. Please see the funeral home’s website for the link.
