Melissa (Missy) Renee Montgomery (age 30) passed away on January 24, 2016, surrounded by family and loved ones. Missy was born in Springfield, MO, and grew up in Republic, MO. After high school she attended Missouri State University where she met her husband, Jeff Montgomery. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Professional Writing. After graduating college, she worked for the Assemblies of God for three years and then Jack Henry & Associates as a Technical Writer for four years. In 2013, Jeff and Missy adopted their two sons, Dominic and Coen.
If one word could describe Missy, it would be steadfast. The reality is that Missy’s faith – her hope – was in Jesus Christ alone. She desired to live a life in a way that brought glory to God. She was passionate about pursuing the things of the Lord, including her marriage, adoption, and making the gospel known to the nations. She spent much of her life pouring into international students, friends, family, and especially her sons and her husband. She loved to sing and dance and she enjoyed traveling, going to concerts and listening to 80’s music. Missy’s greatest desire was for everyone to know her Savior, Jesus Christ. She wanted everyone to experience the hope and joy she found in Him.
Missy was preceded in death by her grandfather Garnie Hurd, grandfather, Lester Smith, grandmother, Jeanette Smith, great grandmother, Ethel Payne, aunt Joan Layton, and cousin Chad Smith.
Missy is survived by her husband Jeff, sons Dominic and Coen, parents, Allen and Joyce Hurd, sister, Alana Mayberry, grandmother, Emmagene Hurd, her in-laws, and several nieces and nephews.
