Melvin D Lemons, son of Ival and Ethel Lemons was born Jan 1, 1930. The youngest of six siblings, all have preceded him in death. On August 23, 1952 he married Edith (Campbell) Lemons, his High School sweetheart. They have one daughter, Janet Black. Melvin worked 2 years in the wheatfields of Kansas, served 4 years in the Air Force at Sac Headquarters, 5 years at Allied Chemical, 21 years in the Federal Prison System, 12 years part time at Empire Bank.
After he retired he and his wife, Edith delivered Meals on Wheels for 16 years and also delivered from the Church pantry for several years. Most Summer vacations were spent enjoying family camping trips. During his working years he liked playing golf and gardening in his free time. He had 4 holes in one throughout his golfing years and he had the newspaper clippings that prove it. He was a member of Sunset Church of Christ. He is survived by his wife, Edith, his daughter, Janet and son-in-law, Dwayne Alan Black, his brother-in-law, Elvin Campbell and his wife, Lillie Tate Campbell and many nephews and nieces that showed Dale and Edith love.
He died January 13, 2024 and was 94 years and 13 days old. Due to weather conditions services have been changed to graveside service 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please donate to Fairhaven Children’s Home or favorite charity.
