Melvin Douglas Singleton, age 81, of Fair Grove, Missouri, passed away on March 25, 2024. Melvin was born to Barney and Ida Singleton on March 25, 1943 in Crocker, MO. He was one of twelve children.
Melvin was employed as a Transport Driver with Highland Dairy for over 25 years, retiring at the age of 63. Melvin loved his McDonald’s tea, and often would have several cups a day. He was also incredibly fond of the wild animals in his own backyard. He befriended a squirrel, “Fast Freddie”, that he fed every day. He also took care of a cardinal and blue jay that had found a home in a tree that Melvin had planted himself. Melvin loved teasing everyone in his life, and was an onery jokester. Melvin’s greatest pride was his family. He was a great provider for his family, making sure that his three children always had everything they could ever want.
Melvin was preceded in death by his father, Barney Singleton; mother, Ida Singleton; sister, Chloe Singleton; and granddaughter, Chelsea Burros. He is survived by his daughter Sonjia and husband James DeJonge; son Stacy Singleton and wife Cindy; daughter Lisa and husband Dan Crim; sisters, Connie, Vivian, Penny, Delores, and Sue; brothers, Bob, Frankie, Ronnie, and Jerry; grand-children, Haley, Kaila, Garrett, and Ashleyn; great-grandchildren, Sophia and Miracle; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A Memorial Visitation for Melvin will be held on Friday, April 12th, 2024 , from Noon until 1 p.m., with a Memorial Service to follow at 1 p.m. at Greenlawn Funeral Home North.
