Melvin Gene Taylor,age 77, passed away on September 8, 2013 at home in Springfield, MO. Melvin fought a courageous 14 year battle with cancer. At the time of his death he was under the care of his special friend, Becky Gillham and Hospice Compassus Care.
Melvin was born August 18,1936 in Miami, OK, a son of Orville Irie Taylor and Elizabeth Winterbower. He attended Central High School in Springfield, MO and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1954 serving in Germany.
Melvin had a gift for drawing, was a natural artist and enjoyed it very much over the years. He retired from Aarons in 1998. Melvin was of the Baptist faith.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents and 3 sons, Jimmy, Larry and Bobby.
He is survived by three brothers, Lee, Lester, and Tim; 2 sisters, Shirley and Donna; grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.
A very special thanks to a loving caring person, Becky Gillham, and her family along with the staff from Hospice Compassus Care for all the kindness and loving care.
Visitation will be Thursday, September 12, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.. Funeral services will be Friday September 13, 2013 at 10 a.m. at Greenlawn North Funeral Home with the Rev. Carl Rees officiating. Burial will follow in the U.S. National Cemetery ( Glenstone and Seminole) with full military honors
