Mi Ann Gwin, a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who was called “Nannie” by her family, entered her heavenly home peacefully on Easter Sunday evening on March 31 , 2024. She was born on June 29, 1941, in South Korea during the Japanese occupation and lived through the Korean War along with her parents and siblings. After the war, she was working at a US Army PX when she met an American Gl who was stationed in Seoul. She later married and immigrated to the United States in the early 60’s.
In her mid-thirties, she attended a cosmetology school at night while working 60 hours a week to achieve her license. She always had a special love for the elderly and would visit nursing homes or make home visits to fix their hair using her newly acquired skills. She turned her passion into a business when she moved to Kirkwood, MO by purchasing and operating a beauty salon called Honey Comb Salon on the main street. She ran her business successfully for over 30 years and served multi-generational clients. She dearly loved her clients and co-workers, and many of them became her life-long friends.
After her husband, Gerald (Pa Pa Jerry) Gwin passed away, she sold the salon and opened up a cozy one-person salon in her home on Handlan Ct. She continued to work serving her long-term clients until her retirement at the age of 75. She then moved to Springfield, MO to be closer to her daughter, but moved back a year later because she missed her friends and the town she loved. More than any place she lived, Kirkwood was her home!
She is survived by her only daughter, Ocki Haas, three grandsons, John (Gillian) Haas, Caleb Haas, and Seth Haas, a niece she adopted as a granddaughter, Amy (Ryan) Davies, and four great-grandchildren, Ruby Haas, January Haas, Leo Haas, and Apollo Davies. She is preceded in death by her parents and seven siblings in Korea, and her husband, Gerald.
A private family service will be held at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery where she will be laid to rest with her husband.
