Michael Aloysius Randolph, age 84, died peacefully during prayer of the Most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary on January 24th, 2024, at CoxHealth Medical Center, in Springfield, Missouri.
He was born December 30th, 1939, to the late F. Emmett and Georgina L. Randolph, in Hastings, Nebraska, one of ten children. He was married to Patricia J. (Moeller) Randolph for almost 58 years and together blessed with four daughters, four sons-in-law, and thirteen grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Patricia J. (Moeller) Randolph of Springfield, daughters Patricia (Randolph) (David) Usher of Eau Claire, WI, Kathleen (Randolph) (Timothy) Woods of Springfield, Shanna (Randolph) (Michael) Widera of Mount Prospect, IL, and Maureen (Randolph) (Thomas) Doheny of New York City, NY. Grandfather to Bridget (Usher) (Brian) Crowley, Jack Usher, Michael Usher, Luke Usher, Marymargaret Woods, Ian Woods, Colin Woods, Keleen Woods, Mary Widera, Michael Widera, Ailish Doheny, Sean Doheny, and Emmett Doheny.
The essence of Mike’s identity was his deep Catholic Faith, and his devotion to family. A middle child with nine siblings, Mike was never quite as much at home as he was surrounded by his brothers and sisters, even late into his life. He was accepting of, and got along with, everyone. He was more at home as an adult staying in an overseas youth hostel than in a high-end hotel. Camping, hiking, canoeing, and traveling with his wife and the girls, attending huge family reunions in Nebraska, or drinking a beer with his sons-in- law, Mike relished life. His laugh infected everyone in the room. After retiring, he enrolled in culinary school, and sharing his expertise, inspired others to share in his joy of cooking. He also picked up a commercial driver’s license to drive trucks across the country to make sure he never missed a family gathering from coast to coast.
No matter what the occasion or event or location on the globe, Mike never missed Sunday Mass.
Michael was a proud graduate of Hastings College and earned a master’s degree in environmental health from the University of Oklahoma. He attained the rank of Captain (O-6) and retired with over 29 years of active federal service as a commissioned officer in the United States Public Health Service in various assignments across the United States. The majority of Mike’s career was dedicated to the Indian Health Service.
He is preceded in death by F. Emmett and Georgina (Collins) Randolph (parents), and four siblings; James Randolph, Delores (Randolph) Capitan, John Randolph, MD, and Thomas Randolph. He is survived by his siblings; Sr. Micaela Randolph, OSB of Atchison, KS, Mary (Randolph) Pope of Overland Park, KS, Edward Randolph, and Patrick Randolph, both of Hastings, NE, and Rita (Randolph) Hunter, of Atchison, KS. Michael is brother-in-law and uncle to the surviving Randolph in-laws and numerous nieces and nephews.
