Michael Duane Robnett, age 56, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away suddenly on July 22, 2026. He was born on February 7, 1970, in Springfield to Allen and Helen Robnett.

A lifelong north Springfield resident, Michael attended Pleasant View Elementary and Junior High, where he discovered his love of baseball through Kiwanis Club Baseball. The friendships he formed with his teammates during those early years remained some of his most treasured throughout his life.

He continued his athletic career at Hillcrest High School, playing football while creating lifelong friendships. Michael graduated from Hillcrest and carried his love of sports with him for the rest of his life. He was a huge supporter of all area sports, both scholastic and professional. He rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on local teams. He was an especially devoted fan of Springfield Cardinals, stock car races, and Dallas Cowboys. Among his favorite sports heroes were Stan Musial and Roger Staubach. One of his favorite memories was touring the original Dallas Cowboys stadium with his sister, Michele, where they explored the locker room and experienced firsthand the home of his beloved team.

After high school, Michael continued playing the game he loved by joining numerous adult softball leagues, ranging from small church leagues to highly competitive USSA teams, such as Springfield-Heat. At the height of his playing days, he could often be found on the field five nights a week. Of all the teams he played for, his favorite was the Slow White Guys, where he enjoyed not only the competition but the friendships that came with it.

Michael dedicated much of his career to the transportation and logistics industry. He began working in shipping and receiving at Bass Pro Warehouse before joining Springfield Underground. He later worked for several courier companies, including Ed Scott Express, eventually concluding his career with Mail Management Services, where he served as the Springfield Site Manager.

Beyond sports, Michael was an avid reader and what his family affectionately described him as an “armchair local historian.” With a remarkable passion for history,  he especially enjoyed uncovering little-known historical facts and possessed an extraordinary memory that allowed him to connect nearly any conversation to a story from the past. He had a unique gift for making history personal, relating it to the people around him in ways that made every conversation engaging. Whether speaking with a lifelong friend or someone he had just met, Michael could carry on a genuine conversation with anyone and had a way of making every person feel valued.

Above all else, Michael loved his family and friends. He made it a priority to stay connected with those he cared about, always checking in and keeping up with the lives of others. He was deeply committed to preserving his family’s history, believing that every story and every connection mattered. His thoughtful nature, loyal friendships, and sincere interest in others will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Allen and Helen Robnett.

He is survived by his sister, Michele Robnett; seven aunts and uncles; eighteen cousins; many second cousins; and countless dear friends whose lives were enriched by his friendship.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 31, 2026, at Greenlawn Funeral Home North.

Michael’s love for sports, his endless knowledge of history, his unwavering loyalty to family and friends, and his ability to make meaningful connections with everyone he met leaves behind a legacy that will never be forgotten.
