Mildred Francis Dopp departed this life for her heavenly home on Tuesday evening, January 29. She was born on November 3, 1921, to Cora and William Gum of Fairview, Missouri. Mildred was a graduate of Rocky Comfort High School and Southwest Missouri State University. She was united in marriage to David E. (Gene) Dopp in 1939 and they had three boys, Tommy, Jim and Mark.
Mildred was a beloved kindergarten teacher with Springfield Public School for 24 years, teaching at Wilder and Eugene Fields Elementary Schools. She also loved working with children at First Baptist Church of Springfield, where she was an active member for many years. She was an avid flower gardener with a green thumb and she often shared this gift with others. After retirement, she was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels for 20 years and Cox Hospitals for 29 years.
Mildred is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Debbie Dopp of Kimberling City, and her grandson, Joey Dopp, also of Kimberling City. She is also survived by her sister, Dorothy Harris of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Gene and sons, Tommy and Mark.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m., Saturday, February 2, at Greenlawn South Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Lighthouse Child and Family Development Center at First Baptist Church, 525 South Avenue, Springfield, MO, 65806.
