Mildred I. Kendrick, 90, passed away Tuesday, August 28, 2012 in Mercy Hospital. Mildred was born June 28, 1922, east of Niangua, Missouri to Burley and Bamma Dudley Yeubanks.
She attended Copening School and church, later attending Niangua where she graduated in 1941. Mildred then pursued her teacher’s certification from State Teachers College in Springfield, returning home to teach at the Amity schoolhouse. In 1944, she transferred to Niangua where she taught for three years.
Mildred was united in marriage to Thomas Lloyd Kendrick on July 9, 1945 in Marshfield, Missouri, moving to Springfield in 1947 where they began to raise a family. After the children were in school, she returned to teaching as a substitute teacher until the 1970s. She was a longtime member of Northside General Baptist where she was a faithful Sunday School teacher, Ladies Aid Auxiliary worker, and a VBS helper. Mildred was very active in her community, serving in the Bissett PTA and as a dedicated election judge. She also worked for the American Heart Association and was very active in her T.O.P.S. group. Mildred enjoyed cooking, traveling, attending her children’s sporting events, and worshipping her Lord, but mostly spending time with her family. She attended the First Freewill Baptist Church whom she considered a second family. Mildred will be missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lloyd; brothers, Elbert and Virginia Yeubanks and Bill and Marie Yeubanks; sister-in-law, Lois Kendrick; and a grandson, Marcus Kendrick.
Survivors include her children, Jim and Cathy Kendrick, Steve and Jeanie Kendrick, Tom and Sherry Kendrick, Dan and Denise Kendrick, and Donnie Kendrick all of Springfield; grandchildren, Lovena Calhoun, Steve Kendrick, Derek Laney, Jennifer Laney, Tom Kendrick, Austin Kendrick, Andrew Kendrick and Jordan Kendrick; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; her sister and husband, Audrey and Raymond King of Springfield; sister-in-law, Nellie Jackson of Cuba, Missouri; brothers-in-law, Lowell and Mable Kendrick and Bill Kendrick of Springfield; wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 1, 2012 in Greenlawn Funeral Home North with burial to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Friday, August 31, 2012 in the funeral home.
