Mildred Taff was born January 19, 1925 to Howard and Gertrude Taff in Cainsville, Missouri. She attended school in Cainsville and pursued a teaching degree at Marysville, Missouri. She began her teaching career in a one room school house in the Cainsville area. She loved teaching and still today she receives cards and letters from some of her former students.
She married Fred Hammond on December 25, 1949 and moved to Kansas where she continued teaching until their daughter, Judy, was born. Eventually they moved to Nebraska where their son, Doug, was born then on to Colorado. She continued to use her teaching gift in Sunday school classes and Children’s Church. She loved seeing those little ones learn more about her Jesus. She truly had a gift for teaching. In 1985, they moved to Springfield where she lived until her death on February 23, 2011.
She is survived by Judy Landers and husband Gerry, Doug and wife Kelli; three grandchildren, Ryan Landers, Jim Landers, Alycia Moak and husband Keith and one great grandson, Caden Landers. She is also survived by nieces, nephews and a host of wonderful friends.
Mildred loved her family, visiting friends and going out to eat. She was a mom who was always ready to give hugs, pats on the back and prayers. She was never too tired or busy to listen. She taught her children how to be a good friend and to care about other people. She left her family a legacy of love for her Lord and love of family. She is in Heaven waiting for all of us to join her. She will probably have a cup of coffee and cookies ready for us.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 24, 2011 at 10:00 am at Greenlawn South Funeral Home with burial to follow in Springfield National Cemetery. Visitation will begin prior to the service at 9:30 am.
