Monta “Skip” Lucille Russell, age 89, of Republic, Mo., passed away Sunday, February 13, 2011. She was born October 17, 1921, in Sardis, Okla., to Frank and Luda Belle Nelson. Monta was the eighth of 11 children.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank A. Nelson and Luda Belle Nelson; four brothers; and four sisters; a step-son, Gary Dean Russell.
She is survived by her husband, Marvin “Rusty” Russell, Republic, Mo.; brother, Frank and his wife Harriet Nelson, Portland, Ore.; sister, Lola Holiday, of Hayfork, Calif.; five nieces, Deborah and L.R. Stewart, Springfield, Mo., Carol Steddum, of Eagle River, Alaska, Linda Reeves, of Tulsa, Okla., Diane Koch, of Columbia Falls, Montana, and Terrie Cravens, of Plano, Texas.
A life well lived full of adventure, traveling, enjoying family and friends. Some of her best times were spent motorcycling with the American Legion Riders of the Vietnam Post #639, until health prevented her from doing so. Skip was a wonderful wife, friend, and aunt, with a heart as big as all outdoors. She was loved dearly by all who knew her, and will be missed very much.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday in Greenlawn Funeral Home North. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., on Wednesday evening in the funeral home. Services have been entrusted to Greenlawn Funeral Home North, Springfield.
