James Dennis Wiggs, known as J.D., passed away peacefully October 21, 2021, after a 10 year battle with Alzheimer’s disease. J.D. was born on Nov 10, 1932, in Dexter, MO, the son of Otis and Myrl Wiggs.
After graduating high school, J.D. served his country in the U.S. Navy for four years. He used his G.I. Bill to attend college at Missouri University in Columbia, MO, completing his degree in 3 1/2 years. After college, J.D. began his first career at Ralston Purina in sales and excelled within the company.
He and his family moved to Springfield, MO, in 1968 where he began his second career with Farmers Insurance and retired from there in 1994.
J.D. was a member of Twin Oaks Country Club since 1968. His only hobby was golf, and he loved the game and all of his golfing buddies.
J.D. was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church.
J.D. is survived by his wife, Donna, of the home; Juli (Kevin) Houseman , Jennifer April Wiggs; stepson Alan (Dawn) Wood; grandchildren Joshua and Jacob Houseman, and Cody (Tammy), Tanner, and Samantha Wood; and great-grandchildren Jakson and Mika Wood, all of Springfield.
J.D. was preceded in death by his parents and, sadly, his son, Jeff Wiggs and the mother of his children, Judy Trumbo Wiggs. Also preceding him in death were J.D.‘s six siblings: Chalmer, Doris, Lois, Naomi, John, and Glen.
Visitation will be at 11 AM October 28, followed by a funeral service at Greenlawn East Funeral Home in Springfield, MO.
A celebration of life open house will be held at Twin Oaks Country Club, Springfield, MO, October 28 from 5 to 7 PM.
