Nellie Sue Winegarner, age 70, of Springfield, MO, passed away Friday, May 8, 2015 in her home. She was born September 5, 1944, in Springfield, MO, to Vernon and Zelma (Putman) Haslip. She was a graduate of Strafford High School. She was united in marriage on August 26, 1966 to William Winegarner, Sr. She spent her life taking care of others in her occupation as a nurse. Nellie Sue loved sewing, cooking, fishing, spending time in the outdoors with her animals and garden. She will always be remembered for her famous dressing, pies, chicken and noodles, fudge, and divinity. Nellie Sue’s greatest love was spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Winegarner, Sr. and her parents, Vernon and Zelma Haslip. She is survived by her three loving children, William Winegarner, Jr and wife Jackie of South Dakota, Mable Lorene Chambers and husband Gene, Springfield, and Vernon Everett Winegarner, Springfield; seven grandchildren, Colleen Renae White, Mellany Sue Anderson, Rachel Winegarner, Levi Dee Winegarner, Haily Ann Winegarner, Barbara Ann Winegarner, and Marinia Winegarner; a very close friend, and mother of one of her granddaughters, Virginia Penn; and a host of family and friends. Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday May 13, 2015 in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to help defray funeral expenses. Services have been entrusted to Greenlawn Funeral Home North, Springfield, MO.
