Norma Jean Wright died on January 11, 2013, at her home in Springfield, surrounded by her loving family. She was 81.
Norma was born on September 22, 1931 in the home of her parents, Hazel (Doss) and Roscoe Davenport, in Springfield, Missouri. Norma met her future husband at Senior High School before graduation in 1949. She married George Junior Wright on a snowy Valentine’s Day in 1951. In addition to making a home for her husband and five children, Norma worked in accounting at Holiday Inn from 1969 until retiring in 2000.
Those who knew her will remember Norma as a kind and generous person who never spoke ill of anyone, and who was always quick with a helping hand. She will be remembered fondly by all whose lives she touched. Norma’s interest in sewing evolved from making clothing for her young family into a love for quilting. Many of the hundreds of quilts she made during her lifetime were given to family, friends and charities.
She is preceded in death by her parents, and her son-in-law, Keith Hendrix. She is survived by her husband George; a sister Lynn Speros and her husband Charles in Phoenix Arizona; three daughters: Cara and her husband Larry Russell; Dana and her husband Kevin Sanders; and Lisa Hendrix; and two sons: Gary and his wife Rita; and David. Surviving sisters-in-law are Dorothy Anderson, Joyce and her husband Bill Shank, and Janice Wheat.
Also surviving are grandchildren: Sean Melton and his wife Michelle, Jared and Kelsey Sanders, Olivia Webster, Jessica Morris, Jacob Wright; and Brandon Wright and his wife Mindy; as well as great-grandchildren: Hannah Melton, Wess Walker, Simon and Ethan Webster, Chloe Wright; plus many nieces and nephews.
An informal gathering to celebrate Norma’s life will be held on Tuesday, January 15 from 6-8 p.m. at Greenlawn Funeral Home North.
Rather than flowers, please make donations to local charities: Isabel’s House or The Family Violence Center.
