Norma Jean Stroebe, 84, beloved wife and mother to so many, passed away at the Elfindale Manor December 5,2011.
Norma was born in Casey, Iowa on August 1,1927 to WJ and Matilda Madsen,she was the third of five children. She was a devout member of Wesley United Methodist Church.
Norma married Herbert (Bud) Egger on September 29, 1946. Norma and Bud were long time business partners,first running Dairy Sweets here in Springfield,and then an OTASCO store in Seneca, Missouri. Bud passed away June 5, 1995. Norma remarried Thomas Stroebe December 9, 2006. The couple enjoyed five years of marriage, traveling extensively and visiting family.
Norma was preceded in death by her two sisters, Evelyn Christensen and Dorothy Kimm.
She is survived by her husband Thomas,children James Egger, and Sheryl Simmons. Stepchildren Thomas A Stroebe, Dorothy A Finley and Jennifer L Johannes, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, brothers Gene and his wife Pinky Madsen; Bill and his wife Dixie Madsen. Norma had a special relationships with Sam and Emily Madsen and adopted daughter Susie Lyon.
Norma was very active in church, choir and the JOY Sunday school class. She volunteered for years at the Library Center and she spearheaded the PACE program at the Southside Senior Center. Norma enjoyed painting, singing, dancing, playing cards, and being with family.
The family would like to thank the staff of Elfindale Manor and Compassus Hospice for their loving care.
A celebration of Norma’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday December 10, 2011 at Wesley United Methodist Church. In Lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Arthritis Center, St.Johns 3231 S. National Suite 400 Springfield, Missouri 65807. Burial will be at a later date in Casey Iowa.
