Norma June Ennis, 86, passed peacefully from this life on Saturday, September 16, 2023, surrounded by loved ones and listening to “How Great Thou Art.”
Norma was born in Mineral Spring, Missouri in 1937. Throughout her life, love for God guided her way. She left home at an early age to attend Moody Bible College in Chicago, Illinois. Later in life, she continued her education to become a Registered Nurse. She dreamed of serving God in medical missions overseas but came to realize that her mission field was here at home, working in hospitals and taking care of her ever-growing family. Those who knew Norma knew that she was full of fire. She had a gentle love like the warmth of a fire in the winter, and she had a temper that could rage like wildfire. If someone said or did something against her children, she would defend them like a flaming torch. Her humor could light up a room like the sun, and in dark times, her words of wisdom would light your path. Norma’s favorite song was “In the Garden,” and we can all rejoice with her now, as she has found her eternal rest in the garden with her Savior.
Norma is preceded in death by her parents, Olan Ennis and Dialtha “Janie” Wilson Ennis; her brothers, Larry Ennis, Glen Ennis, Marvin Ennis, and Loye Jean Ennis; and her great grandson, Kaden Freeman-Abramovitz.
She is survived by her fourteen children and their spouses, Phillip and Paula Rogers, Mark Rogers, Rebecca Cavener, Aaron and Susan Rogers, Darrell and Robin Freeman, Maya and Doug Powell, Cheryl Cassidy, Chrissy and Calvin Furrow, David and Allien Freeman, Alicia and Jon Foster, Vala and Phil Long, Rima Freeman, Enoch and Brandi Freeman, and Leah and Nate Orphan; over forty grandchildren and almost fifty great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Norma’s life will be held at Maranatha Chapel, 233 E Norton Rd, Springfield, Missouri, on Wednesday, September 20 at 2:00 p.m. Family visitation will begin one hour before at 1:00 p.m. The service will be livestreamed on the Maranatha Village Chapel YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/@maranathavillagechapel.
