Norman E. Cobel, age 76, of Springfield, Mo., passed away Monday, March 21, 2011 at St. John’s Medical Center. He was born January 23, 1935, in Springfield, Mo., to Henry and Daisy (Wright) Cobel.
He loved fishing, golf, woodworking, but most of all he loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Norman worked as foreman for Polish and Benedict Construction for many years, he later worked at EBY Contruction until retiring in 1991. He was also a member of the local Carpenter’s Union.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Daisy Cobel; a son, Howard Lee Cobel; grandchildren, Roxie Cobel and Amber LeAnn Cobel; and one sister, Dorothy Brower.
He is survived by his wife, Roberta Cobel of the home; four children, Steven D. Cobel and wife Linda of Rogersville, James D. Cobel of Springfield, Vickie Fisher and husband Jim of Rogersville, and Lori Wertz and husband Bill of Springfield; fourteen grandchildren; twenty two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jean Tate of the state of California and Mary Gilmore of Springfield; one brother, Wilbur Cobel of the state of Texas; and a host of friends and family.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, March 24, 2011 in Greenlawn Funeral Home North, Springfield, MO. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 also in the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Childrens’ Mercy Hospital, Kansas City in care of the funeral home.
