Oliver Rex McDonald (86) of Springfield, MO went to Heaven on October 31st, 2022. Rex was born to Oliver and Virginia McDonald in Kansas City, KS on March 29th, 1936. Rex enjoyed traveling to the beach, cooking, fishing, hunting, helping others and working on various projects. He spent his early adult years in the Navy. He was a Petty Officer Second Class on the USS Eastwind contributing to Operation Deepfreeze in the Antarctic Circle. Rex was the 128th person to step foot on the South Pole. He married his wife Betty Sue in 1956. They raised their three sons in Independence, MO. Rex retired from Owens Corning Fiberglass. He was a proud Scottish Rite 32 ° Mason also highly involved with the Elks Lodge. In his later years, Rex enjoyed spending time at the hillside with his wife Sonja, going fishing with his dear friend Roger and staying active the best he could. Rex loved his family and friends dearly.
Rex is preceded in death by his wife Betty Sue McDonald of 43 years, his parents Oliver and Virginia McDonald, Sister Betty Fields and his great granddaughter Matilda.
Rex is survived by his wife Sonja McDonald of Springfield, MO, Sister Billy Fields (Independence, MO), His three sons, Kenny McDonald (Oak Grove, MO), David McDonald (Grain Valley, MO) and James McDonald (Everett, WA). Rex has a total of 6 grandchildren and three great grandsons. Rex will be laid to rest at Floral Hills Cemetery in Raytown, MO. There will be a graveside service provided for family and friends.
Graveside Services will be held 11:00 am Saturday, November 12, 2022 at Floral Hills Cemetery in Raytown, MO.
