Opal L. Fanning, 89, Springfield, died November 9 at Cox South Hospital after a short illness.
Opal was born July 28, 1926 in Scott City, Kansas, the youngest of 4 daughters. She married Earl Clifton Fanning on March 30, 1944 in Fort Scott, Kansas and they made their home in Independence, Missouri. Following Clifton’s retirement from the Kansas City Fire Department in 1977, the couple retired to their home on Stockton Lake. In 1983, they moved to Lamar, MO where she remained following Clifton’s death in 1992. In August of 2011, Opal moved to Springfield, MO to be closer to her son and his family.
Opal was preceded in death by her husband and an infant son. She is survived by her son, Steven, and her grandsons, Trevor, Travis and Trystan, all of Springfield.
Services will be graveside at
2 p.m. Saturday at Morehead Cemetery east of Lamar. Services have been entrusted to Greenlawn Funeral Home South.
