Opal Pauline Burton, 98, of Springfield, MO, passed away peacefully at home on Thanksgiving Day, November 23, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. Opal was born on May 21, 1925 in Everton, MO to Jesse and Clara Finney. She was united in marriage to Marvin Burton on May 6, 1944. Opal was a member of High Street Baptist Church for over 70 years. She had a true love of the Lord and attended church regularly until her health prevented her from doing so.
Opal was an avid homemaker her entire married life. She was a member of the Doling PTA for many years and served as President at various times. She was also an Avon representative for over 30 years earning multiple awards including being a member of the President’s Club for many of those years. She loved gardening, quilting and genealogy and spent many hours canning the fruits of her labor, making quilts for family members and researching her ancestry. Her main passion was her family and she loved spending time with family members cooking, playing games, working jigsaw puzzles, and making candy at the holidays.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her half-brother and his wife, Leon Eidson (Alma), and half-sister and her husband, Wilma Long (Willis). She is survived by her children, Randy (Carol) Burton, Battlefield, MO; Nelda (John) Patrick, Carthage, MO; Pam (Paul) Highfield, Springfield, MO; Sharon (Kelly) Heal, Rogersville, MO; Mark (Beth) Burton, Joplin, MO; 7 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and multiple nieces and nephews.
Services are under the direction of Greenlawn Funeral Home North. Visitation: Thursday, November 30, 6 – 8 p.m. Funeral: Friday, December 1, 10:00 a.m.
Interment will be at Ash Grove Cemetery, Ash Grove, MO, immediately following the funeral service.
